State Theatre Centre
The State Theatre Centre opened its doors in January 2011, making it Western Australia’s newest theatre space. The venue includes the 575-seat Heath Ledger Theatre and the more intimate 234-seat Studio Underground. It’s also home to the Courtyard – a multi-purpose outdoor events space with two rehearsal rooms and two private suites.
The Centre was designed by the award-winning Kerry Hill Architects and is one of Perth’s defining architectural landmarks. Two artworks commissioned under the State Government’s Percent for Art Scheme form part of the venue, both of which acknowledge the space as being an educational facility and as being on the site of an old meeting ground for Aboriginal people.
Resident companies at the State Theatre Centre include Black Swan State Threat Company, Barking Gecko Theatre Company and Co3 Australia.
